over a wire, on a string: Suzanne Vega makes history in ‘Second Life’

from The Wire
Written by Chris Dahlen

Wednesday, 23 August 2006

Suzanne Vega has heralded the birth of several technologies. She’s sometimes called “the mother of mp3” because the first song digitized in the format was “Tom’s Diner.” Earlier this month, she made history again—as the first major artist to perform “live” in the online virtual world of “Second Life.”

from Edge-online: Video game culture

[Excerpt]

Bill Lichtenstein, president of Lichtenstein Creative Media, which produces The Infinite Mind, describes the move as a “first step through the looking glass” into the virtual world, allowing TIM the opportunity to reach a vast new global audience.
